The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that took place on US 20 and County Road 10-3 just south of Lyons. The crash took place on January 22, 2022, at around 3:52 p.m.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies were looking for a stolen vehicle at the time. A vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle passed Deputies on US 20 at county road 8.

Deputies turned around to go after the vehicle, which was now traveling at a high rate of speed. By the time officers were able to catch up to the vehicle, it had already crashed at the intersection.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, David Foster, 32 years old, from Morenci, Michigan, was driving in a Ford Fusion.

Mr. Foster collided into a Ford Edge being driven by Kenneth Montie, 66 years old, from Toledo, Ohio. Mr. Montie entered the intersection from the stop sign at 10-3 and was struck on the driver side door by Mr. Foster’s vehicle.

After both vehicles came to a rest on the southwest side of the intersection, the Ford Fusion caught on fire. Mr. Foster, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was taken by Promedica Air to Toledo Hospital with serious injuries.

Mr. Montie was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by EMS to the Fulton County Health Center with serious injuries.

Mr. Montie’s passenger, Paul Fenton, 61 years old, from Jasper, Michigan, was also wearing his seat belt. He was transported by LifeFlight to St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased the following day.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol believes impairment is a factor in the crash, but the matter remains under investigation.

Assistance was given by the Lyons Royalton Fire Department, Metamora Amboy Fire Department, Wauseon Fire and EMS, Morenci EMS, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Promedica Air and LifeFlight.
