The February 9th Edgerton Park Board meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Robert Day then led the group in a prayer.

All four park board members, Bill Swank, Cameron Cochran, Amanda Giesige and Camie Hicks, were present, along with village administrator Dawn Fitzcharles, village fiscal officer Denise Knecht and Day.

Day began the meeting by reminding the board members that they are an advisory board. They do not have a budget, but they can bring recommendations to the village council.

The council may sometimes vote on those recommendations. The next village council meeting will take place on February 15, at 7 p.m.

Especially since Swank and Cochran are new to the board, Day and Fitzcharles gave a little breakdown on the village’s three parks and things that need to be repaired.

Beginning with Miller Park, after a year of frustration of not having all the pieces for the new playground equipment that was ordered, the equipment had to be manufactured a second time.

“(This time around), we are now dealing with the owner of the company,” Day said. “He was ready to come out right away, but I told him, first of all, we need to make sure we have everything.”

“If we do and if (the owner) accepts what we have in writing (that we present to him), then the equipment could be installed soon.”

Along with new equipment, there is some equipment from the first time around of ordering, like rope climbing equipment, that could be installed.

In addition, Edgerton purchased some playground equipment from Tinora schools that was left over when Tinora’s new school was built in 2021.

Some of the equipment could also go to Gerhart Park, to be installed. Also, regarding Miller Park, there is a need to rebuild the restrooms there.

“It will cost over $50,000 to fix the restrooms, so we will have to competitive bid it,” Fitzcharles said. “But, it is in the budget to do it.”

Another area that needs to be refurbished are the outside basketball courts by the school. These need new backboards and the concrete for the courts should be redone. In addition, the picnic pavilion in Town Park needs to be repaired.

The Park Board plans to attend a fundraiser at Rita’s, tentatively for March 8, between 4 and 7 p.m. This could raise money for some of the park projects.

After discussing the immediate needs for each park, the park board decided to adjourn.
