Wauseon City Council met on Monday, May 2, 2022 for the regular first meeting of the month. Following roll call with Councilor Chamberlin absent, it was recorded that the number there constituted a quorum for the transaction of city business. Council voted to approve the prior meeting minutes and the payment of bills.
In Department Head reports, Police Chief Chittenden gave a summary of the Grants and Contracts that would be voted on later in the meeting.
Director of Public Service, Keith Torbet, gave a summary of Resolution 10, explaining that it was condensed to include seven different Engineering services.
He also reported that they are moving forward with the Pickle Ball Courts, going under the pavilion at Homecoming Hill Park.
The start date for the S. Brunell St. reconstruction will be around June 1st. Law Director, Tom McWatters explained the two Alcohol Permits that would be voted on during the meeting under New Business.
Mayor Kathy Huner read a Proclamation, declaring May 1-7, 2022, the 53rd Annual Professional Municipal Clerk’s Week. In the proclamation it mentioned that “the office of the professional municipal clerk is the oldest among public servants.”
It named Wauseon Municipal Clerks Korin Baumgartner, Trudy Vasvery and Emily Porter, specifically and honored them along with all others “for the vital services they perform and their exemplary dedication to the communities they represent.”
There was an Annual Joint Meeting between Council and Clinton Township Trustees scheduled to take place during this meeting, but there must have been a miscommunication as none of the trustees or Councilor Chamberlin, the Wauseon Union Cemetery rep for council, were present.
Mayor Huner asked council if they could move it to May 16th and try again. Council members indicated that it would be fine to do that.
In legal business, council approved the following:
First Reading:
-Resolution 2022-10 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into agreements for Engineering services
-Resolution 11 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association Patrol Officer’s Union, and declaring an emergency, placing it on final reading
-Resolution 12 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association Records Technicians and Full time Dispatchers Union, and declaring an emergency, moving it to final reading.
Second Reading:
-Resolution 6 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with FellerFinch & Associates, Inc. for Engineering services
-Resolution 7 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with Peterman Associates, Inc. for Engineering services
-Resolution 8 resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with DGL Consulting Engineers, LLC. For Engineering services.
-Resolution 9 resolution authorizing the mayor into an agreement with Poggemeyer Design Group for Engineering services.
In New Business, council approved:
-A motion to authorize the mayor to send a letter to the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control indicating that the city does not object to the sale of liquor on an outdoor expanded patio area at Los Mariachis, LLC located at 625 N. Shoop Ave.
-A motion to accept the JAG Grant
-A motion to accept the VAWA Grant
-A request from Allerin Company LLC DBA Anything Grows, located at 1380 n. Shoop Ave., for a liquor license, with no objections
With no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
