The Metamora Village Council held their meeting on Wednesday, July 6th. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Sauerlender first addressed the fact that the community was saddened to hear of Michelle Herr’s passing. Michelle’s brother is on the newly established Planning Commission.
Council moved to send a sympathy card and to also eventually purchase something in memory of Michelle.
Kim Smallman from the Metamora Chamber of Commerce then addressed council regarding the Party in the Park event. Details about this past event were discussed as well as next years with council being asked by Smallman to reserve the dates of June 9th, 10th, and 11th for next year.
A motion was made and approved to reserve those dates for the 2023 Party in the Park event. Council then moved to approve the minutes for the previous meeting that took place on June 22nd followed by the bills as presented.
Discussion then took place regarding the pump situation at the lift stations. Council then moved to approve the following motions.
A motion to fix the pump currently at The Craun Liebing Company, a motion to have the 2nd pump that is not working taken to Craun Liebing to receive an estimate, and a motion to purchase a brand-new pump through Buckeye Pumps.
This year’s chicken BBQ was then discussed. Council was informed that there are other events taking place on the same day that could possibly have an impact on sales.
If an order was already placed for chickens, the order will be reduced to 400 instead of 500 if possible. If their chickens have not been ordered, the BBQ may be cancelled and held again next year.
If the chickens were ordered and the amount is not changeable, the event will be held as planned.
A discussion regarding golf carts then took place. The mayor was approached by a village resident regarding the law on the usage of golf carts within the village. It was stated that the State Highway is set at 35 MPH or less.
The law reads that the state highway gets treated as any other street here in town. State Law requires golf carts to be equipped with certain safety features such as windshield, seat belts, turn signals, etc.
Also, they must be inspected by local law enforcement, registered with the BMV, license driver and have liability insurance.
No one under 16 can operate one unless on private property and occupied by a legal adult. The Village will follow the State Law when it comes to legal rules and regulations on golf carts.
As far as Snowmobiles, Off-Highway Motorcycles and All-Purpose Vehicles within the village, Codified Ordinance – Chapter 375 rules and regulations remain in effect.
The conversation then shifted to discuss a dam inspection. It was stated that Project Engineer Michael Becker met with an individual at the reservoir and that the inspection was complete. The inspection report will be released at a later date.
Moving to the fiscal officer’s report, council first moved to approve a transfer of $1,000.00 to pay for the MSB bond payment that is due on 12/01/2022. A discussion then took place regarding the previously held garage sale weekend.
It was then stated that two letters were mailed out to residents in town regarding zoning violations. More letters will also need mailed out regarding tall grass and weeds.
Council was then informed that the next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the Metamora Community Library. The meeting takes place at 6:00 p.m. and goes until 7:00 p.m.
The mayor then gave the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office report for the month of May before council moved to adjourn at 7:56 p.m.
