(January 16th, 2015) – PETTISVILLE: In a tight defensive battle, it was the Lady Blackbirds who stood victorious at the final buzzer.

The junior varsity girls of Fayette played with pride, battling back from a huge deficit early in the contest. It wasn’t quite enough, however, as the Lady Eagles fell to Pettisville 26-19.

The Blackbirds began the game by building a large lead. The first quarter saw them pull ahead 10-1. Following up that performance, Pettisville was able to expand on that advantage in the second quarter, adding another 4 points to their cushion. This gave them a 19-6 lead heading into halftime.

Not content to just lay down for the Blackbird girls, Fayette regrouped at the half, and came out swinging to start the third quarter. The Lady Eagles turned the period into a 10-2 run, which put them right back into contention for the game. Both sides struggled to get into a offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter. Pettisville was able to stay 2 points ahead of Fayette down the stretch, earning them a hard fought 7 point victory.

Jaelyn Rufenacht, a junior for Pettisville, led the Blackbirds in scoring with 9 points. Fayette’s Rylee Ruger, another junior, also put up 9 points.
