(March 5th, 2015) – SYLVANIA: The pairing of Jacob Newlove and Noah Castle allowed the Indians to cruise to victory against Rossford. The win avenges a regular season loss to the Bulldog boys.

When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 51-35, in Wauseon’s favor.

The Indian boys started the game with a strong display on both ends of the court. Their efforts paid off, as the ended the first period with a 9-2 advantage. Rossford would prove much more formidable in the contests second frame. In that quarter, the Bulldogs chipped a couple of points away from the Wauseon lead, outscoring the Indian boys 13-11. Still, Wauseon was able to go into halftime with a 20-15 lead.

After the half, however, the boys from Wauseon took over the game, starting in the third stanza. They came out of the locker room determined to establish dominance. And that’s just what they did, as Wauseon pulled away with a 13-5 display in the period. With just the fourth quarter left, the Indians held a commanding 13 point lead, 33-20.

The final period of play was a high scoring affair. Rossford made one last push to extend their season, putting up a 15 point effort in the waning minutes of the contest. Wauseon was able to withstand this barrage, though, and then some. They totaled 18 points to close out the game, assuring themselves the 16 point win.

Newlove gave the Indians a huge scoring boost. The senior guard earned 22 points, making 7 field goals from within the arc. Castle also had a tremendous night, using his 6’5” frame to put a trio of two-point field goals through the net. He also forced the Bulldog interior defenders to foul him constantly, which he cashed in for 7 extra points.

Carter Bzovi added 8 points in the victory, including the only successful Indian three in the contest. Senior big man Zach Johnson contributed 6 points as well.

The win propelled Wauseon to Districts, a surprising development for most with the Indians seeded seventh in their bracket.
