The Evergreen Public Library has held a Reading program for children throughout this Summer. The program lasted 6 weeks and was themed “All Together Now”. Children’s Librarian Laura Schwab explained how the program worked this year.

“We took a different literary character each week and focused on the kinder points of their stories.

“These characteristics were then, hopefully, instilled in the child’s everyday life. Some of the characters chosen were Clifford, Winnie the Pooh, and Rainbow Fish.”

“Each week, the participants did crafts, partook in programs and games based on the week’s theme. Some examples were baking bread, making pillows, and a visit with a special needs dog.”

“In the end, prizes were awarded based on the number of minutes read and a bingo sheet that had fun reading activities for the children to do.”

“Everyone who participated in the program celebrated on July 18th at the Metamora Park with a circus show provided by CircusAmongus, out of Livonia, Michigan. There were roughly 230 children who signed up for the program.”
