(April 4th, 2015) – CONTINENTAL: The Lady Panthers got off to a tough start this year, as they fell to hosting non-conference opponent Continental on Saturday, April 4. With the mercy rule in effect, the game had to be called after the fifth inning.
Stryker dropped the contest to the Lady Pirates 14-4.
It took the Panther girls a bit to find their rhythm offensively, as they weren’t able to put any runs on the board until the third inning. Continental took advantage of this, scoring 4 runs in both the first and second innings. In the top of the third, the girls of Stryker put up 3 runs, reducing their deficit to 5 with an 8-3 score.
The Lady Pirates were quick to respond. During the bottom half of the fourth, the Continental girls tacked on 5 more runs to their total, threatening to end the contest early with a 10 run advantage. Not content to simply let that happen, Stryker scored another run in the top of the fifth inning, bringing their disadvantage down to 9 runs. The Pirates were able to add a run as well in that inning, forcing the mercy rule to come into play.
Miranda Maynard was the losing pitcher for the Panther girls. While she gave up 9 runs on 9 hits, she also struck out 6 batters and walked just 1 in her 4.2 innings at the mound. Her defense struggled on the afternoon as well, as they committed 6 errors in the game.
Stepping up at the plate as well, Maynard drove in 2 RBIs for the Lady Panthers. Teammate Emily Cadwell hit for a double. Katie Yoder, a senoir for Stryker, slugged her way to a pair of singles, as did Sierra Walters. Junior Miranda Pegorch earned a single as well.
