Wauseon Cuts Off Late Swanton Run To Earn Road Win

April 13, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(April 6th, 2015) – SWANTON: Falling behind quite early in the contest, Wauseon quickly came back to assume control of the game against Swanton for most of the evening. There was a moment when it appeared as though the Lady Bulldogs might creep their way back into the thick of things, but the Indians refused to allow them to get close stealing the game away.

Wauseon would go on to defeat the hometown girls of Swanton 13-9.

After getting on the scoreboard first with a 2 run offering in the top of the first, Wauseon saw their advantage deteriorate quite swiftly. The Lady Bulldogs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the inning, giving themselves an early 3 run edge over their guests. That too would not last, however.

The Lady Indians’ offense exploded in the second inning. By the time they were to return to defense, Wauseon had racked up 7 runs. They would add 4 more runs in the fourth, putting their lead at 8 runs. Swanton would attempt to come back, tacking on 1 run to their total in the fifth, and 3 more in the sixth. That’s as close as they would be allowed get, though, as Wauseon clamped down defensively in the seventh inning, effectively ending the game.

Senior Lady Indian Hayley Chamberlain went 2 for 3 from the plate. She hit a single and a double, earning herself 3 RBIs for the contest. Teammate Jordan Sloan drove in 2 RBIs, making contact with the ball on 2 of her 5 appearances at the plate. She hit a pair of singles.

Pitcher Ally Tefft went the distance for Wauseon, pitching a complete game. Giving up 7 earned runs on 8 hits, she would also strike out 5 Bulldog batters on her way to the victory.
