(April 23rd, 2015) – MONTPELIER: While they gave a valiant effort on their home field, the Locomotives of Montpelier couldn’t keep pace with the Archbold offense, which scored in five out of seven innings of play. The Locos dropped the match-up 9-3.

The Blue Streaks made things difficult from the very start, driving in 3 runs in the top of the opening inning. Montpelier brought in a run in the bottom half of the inning, though they still trailed 3-1. Archbold added another run to their total in the second, while the Loco boys matched that before the beginning of the third.

Archbold began to pull away in that particular inning, racking up 3 more runs for their cause. This time, Montpelier had no answer, falling behind 7-2. Each side scored a run in the fifth, keeping the gap between them at the same margin. With another run in the sixth, the Blue Streaks sealed their victory, holding the Locomotives scoreless in their final two innings at the plate.

Cody Caudill accepted the loss for Montpelier, spending three innings on the mound. The senior pitcher gave up 7 runs on 6 hits. He also struck out a pair of Archbold batters, walking another. Relieving him for the last four innings was Wyatt Gulick. He allowed 2 runs off of 2 hit, striking out 1 batter while walking 2 more.

Gunnar Matson went 1 for 3 in the contest for the Locos. The junior’s lone hit was a double. Senior Jared Shoup, going 1 for 2 on the evening, hit for a single.
