Evergreen FFA Members Participate In District & State Soil Judging Contests

DISTRICT SOIL JUDGING … On Tuesday, September 27, the Evergreen FFA had 16 members compete at the District 1 Soil Judging Contest. There were eight members in the rural contest and eight in the urban contest. At this FFA contest, members are to determine the different soil properties such as soil texture, landform, and soil drainage. The rural team consisted of: Andrew Bettinger, Nate Emmons, Joey Okos, Nick Rosinski, Braden Studenka, Brody Studenka, Jack Stubleski, and Kate Wyse. The urban team consisted of: Marlee Brubaker, Sydney Bull, Avery Emmitt, Jackson Huffman, Lanae Manz, Alex Mossing, Alex Paulson, and Riley Studenka. The rural team placed sixth in the competition while the urban team placed third. The urban team moved onto state competition in mid-October, where they placed 29th as a team. STATE SOIL JUDGING … The Evergreen FFA had four individuals qualified for the Ohio FFA State Urban Soil Judging Contest. The team consisted of freshmen – Sydney Bull, Alex Paulson, Jackson Huffman and sophomore – Riley Studenka. The team competed at the District 1 Soils Contest on September 26th, where they evaluated soil properties for building and structure development. The team placed third at the contest, which qualified for the state competition. The team members traveled to Lancaster, Ohio on October 14th for a competition. The team judged four different soil pits, a soil survey exam, and a general knowledge exam. The team placed 29th in the contest. It has been several years since Evergreen has had a team compete at the state competition. Team members included (left to right) – Jackson Huffman, Sydney Bull, Alex Paulson, and Riley Studenka. Sydney placed 46th as an individual out of 164 participants.
