(June 25th, 2015) – PETTISVILLE: Hosting neighbor Wauseon in ACME play, the Pettisville boys knew their defense would have to be stellar if they were to have a chance at victory. The Blackbirds efforts in the field were admirably, yet the visiting Indians proved to be an even more effective defensive force, holding their hosts scoreless throughout the contest.

Wauseon topped Pettisville 3-0.

The Indians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a pair of runs scored in the top half of the game’s opening inning. The duration of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings would see neither side post another run to the scoreboard, as the Blackbird offense couldn’t mount a counteroffensive. Then, in the top of the sixth, Wauseon tacked on another run to their total. With both teams unable to score in the seventh and final inning of play, the hometown boys found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-0 margin.

Jacob Flory gave the Indian boys one of their two hits in the victory. Going 1 for 3, he hit for a double. Teammate Brooks Gype also went 1 for 3 at the plate, earning a single.

Dillon King led the Pettisville hitters with a double on a 1 for 2 evening for the rising sophomore. Senior-to-be Christian Barhite also connected with the ball once, hitting a single on a for 2 performance. Fellow Blackbird Austin Horning went 1 for 2 as well, hitting for a single.

Wauseon’s C.J. Moser claimed the win in a pitchers’ duel, allowing no runs from just 3 hits. He also struck out 10 batters, walking only 2 more. His Blackbird counterpart, Barhite, had a solid day from the mound as well, giving up 2 earned runs off of 2 hits. Amassing 6 strikeouts, the Pettisville pitcher walked 6 Wauseon batters as well.
