Bill Geis will be taking over as the new head coach of the Hilltop Varsity Girls Basketball program.
During their July regular board meeting, the Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education accepted the resignation of Aaron Schmidt, who took on coaching duties for the program while also teaching Physical Education and Health for the school. Geis, already an employee of the district, currently coaches Varsity Golf at Hilltop. He’s also coached the Eighth Grade Girls Basketball team for the Cadets as recently as last Winter.
Stepping into Schmidt’s role as the school’s new Physical Education Teacher is Damon W. Drewes.
Hilltop Athletic Director Tony Gerig will have some help running the district’s sports activities for the 2015-16 school year. The board elected to bring in Ken Brown as Co-Athletic Director.
Superintendent Larry Long will see the same amount of pay as he did in his previous years at Hilltop. As he requested, his salary of $85,000 per year will remain unchanged from his first two years on the job. Long is currently entering into the final year of his contract with the district.
Long will be reimbursed for graduate study classes he had recently taken. The full cost of said reimbursement can total a maximum of $1,500 per year.
The board also accepted several donations from throughout the community. A gift of $1,000 was offered for the Church Women United Scholarship. The Athletic Fund for the district’s volleyball program saw a $530 increase, thanks to the Hilltop Athletic Boosters. Mike Fether donated $200, and Steven Bentley $100, to the school’s football program.
An agreement with TinyEye Therapy Services was met with board approval. The company offers speech language pathology, occupational therapy, and other therapy services to its customers. The district will pay a rate of $75 per hour for TinyEye when using their services.
Marla Nafziger is the newest substitute teacher to be employed by the Millcreek-West Unity district, as her contract was approved by the board. Marion D. Allen was also hired by board members, filling the role of Para Professional. Deborah Connolly saw her contract approved as well, giving her the position of part-time cook at the school.
Entering into Executive Session near the conclusion of the meeting, the board discussed the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of public employees or regulated individuals. No action was taken.
