In a small town like Lyons, Ohio, the Fire Department serves as a pillar of strength and hope for the community. Reflecting on the past year, the unwavering commitment and outstanding efforts of the Lyons Royalton Fire Department members have not gone unnoticed.

In 2023, the Lyons Royalton Fire Department responded to approximately 190 rescue calls and 64 fire calls. Despite a decrease in rescue calls, the department faced a noticeable increase in fire calls.

The reduction in rescue calls was noted as a good thing, while the rise in fire incidents due to the consequences of drier conditions, leading to more field and brush fires.

Amid these challenges, the invaluable support of the community through fundraisers has provided the department with the means to acquire new equipment for EMS and fire services, alleviating the need for additional funds through taxes.

Throughout the year, the department encountered both positive developments and difficult moments, including a tragic accident. However, the unity and support shown by the department members proved instrumental in helping everyone cope with the incident.

This shows that the department’s involvement in the community extends beyond emergency responses. Whether it’s participating in parades, organizing fundraising dinners, hosting holiday activities, or offering CPR classes to the public, the department remains dedicated to providing the best possible services as an all-volunteer fire department.

Additionally, the availability of full-time EMS through the county EMS levy has been instrumental in ensuring efficient operations for the department.

The community’s steadfast support has been integral, especially during critical moments. When several members were called to assist the Delta Fire Department during a fundraiser, the community members stepped in, demonstrating their solidarity and ensuring the fundraiser continued seamlessly until their return.

Such acts epitomize the dedication of the department members in serving not only their own community but also neighboring communities in times of need.

Even so, recruiting new members remains a significant challenge for the department. New members are always needed and are always welcome. The department is always on the lookout for individuals willing to volunteer their time to help those in need.

Looking ahead, the Lyons Fire Department remains steadfast in its commitment to providing vital services. In the close-knit community of Lyons, the Lyons Royalton Fire Department stands as a beacon of dedication, unity, and selflessness.

Their tireless efforts and sacrifices are not only deeply appreciated but also serve as a source of inspiration for all.

As the department continues to seek new members to join their family, it’s clear that their legacy of service and sacrifice will endure, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community for years to come.
