(PRESS RELEASE) Napoleon Township, Henry County – On September 2, 2024 at approximately 1:23 p.m. the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Defiance Post was dispatched to a three-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 24 and County Road 17D, in Napoleon Township, Henry County.

A 2019 Buick Encore operated by Harriet Schroeder, age 90, of Napoleon, was traveling south on County Road 17D and stopped at the posted stop sign.

A 2019 Dodge Ram, operated by Christopher Borstelman, age 38, of Defiance, was also traveling south on County Road 17D. The Ram failed to maintain assured clear distance of the Buick, striking the Buick in the rear.

After the initial collision, the Buick entered the west lanes of U.S. Route 24 and was struck by a 2021 Volvo VVN commercial semi-truck that was traveling west on U.S. Route 24. The Volvo was operated by Sanoob Saleem, age 38, of Waterloo, Ontario.

Schroeder was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Borstelman and Saleem were treated at the scene. A portion of the west lanes of U.S. Route 24 were closed during the crash investigation.

Defiance Post Troopers were assisted at the crash scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Napoleon Fire Department / EMS, and the Henry County Coroner and Prosecutor’s Office. All three vehicles sustained disabling damage and were recovered by K&K Collision.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing safety belts. The crash remains under investigation.
