The Black Swamp Arts Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 4th. Guests enjoyed entertainment from singer-songwriter Brad Burkhart, as well as refreshments and food.

The center officially opened in November 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in the promotion of the arts in Northwest Ohio.

The historic building at 210 N. Defiance Street in downtown Archbold has been generously donated by the Edward and Mildred Roth family, enabling the establishment of a permanent community arts center.

This visionary contribution from the Roth family has already significantly enhanced the Black Swamp Arts Center’s ability to foster artistic development and engage the community culturally.

Strategically located in the downtown area, the center provides a dedicated space for visual, performing, and literary arts, with a mission to ensure that artistic expression is accessible to all members of the community.

The Black Swamp Arts Center serves as a dynamic multipurpose venue, functioning as a gallery, performance space, and educational hub. It offers a diverse array of programming designed for all age groups.

Through its rotating exhibitions, hands-on workshops, and live performances, the Center fosters a welcoming environment that encourages and celebrates artistic expression.

Supported by the Black Swamp Arts Council, which has dedicated 25 years to promoting the arts in the region, the Center builds upon a legacy of community engagement.

Notable programs include the annual High School Art Show, a complimentary musical ensemble for fourth-grade students, scholarships for summer enrichment programs, a collaborative concert with the Toledo Symphony at Sauder Village, and a highly regarded summer arts camp for children ages 6 to 12.

The Center’s presence in downtown serves as a constant reminder of the essential role art occupies in our lives, encompassing music, film, visual arts, and even the designs we encounter in our everyday experiences.

There are numerous opportunities for community involvement. Members of the community are encouraged to engage by volunteering for gallery setup or events, teaching classes, submitting proposals for future programming, or supporting local artists through the purchase of their work.

The center has had a total of 40 classes and over 500 participants since January of this year.

For further information about volunteer opportunities or upcoming events, please reach out to the Black Swamp Arts Center or visit their website.
