The City of Bryan Fire Department has recently completed an upgrade to its facilities, transforming an unfinished area on the second floor of the fire station into sleeping quarters for its 24-hour shift firefighters. This renovation will improve working conditions for the department’s team.

The project began with an open, unfinished area. The transformation included the construction of six individual sleeping rooms and a storage room.

Only the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms remains to finalize the space, ensuring safety for the firefighters.

Images shared by the department’s social media page highlight the progress, showing a hallway with multiple doors leading to the new rooms, each designed to provide a comfortable rest area for the staff.

According to the department, they currently have six firefighters on a 24-on/72-off schedule, meaning one or two are present every day. Additionally, the department employs part-time and administrative staff who do not stay overnight.

During a level 3 snow emergency, the staffing increases to four on duty to handle the heightened demand, demonstrating the facility’s adaptability to varying needs.

With the bunk room nearing completion, the Bryan Fire Department is excited to provide rest and recovery options for its firefighters, a critical factor for maintaining their readiness and effectiveness.

The addition of safety features like smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will further ensure a secure environment. This upgrade reflects the department’s commitment to supporting its team and serving the community.
