Fulton County Health Center recently hosted its 49th Health Care Camp on July 29, 2025, welcoming a group of high school students for an afternoon of hands-on learning and career exploration.

Students from Archbold, Evergreen, and Delta High Schools, Katelyn Liechty, Kendall Liechty, Madailein Young, and Allyson Canfield, attended the camp, which aims to introduce youth to the inner workings of the healthcare field through real-world exposure and practical instruction.

Launched in June 2015, FCHC’s Health Care Camp has become a cornerstone outreach effort, designed to demystify the medical environment and promote future careers in healthcare.

Over the past decade, the camp has drawn more than 265 students from 15 different schools or colleges. Many of those past participants are now working as nurses, technicians, and providers across the region.

This summer’s camp offered more than just a simple tour; it provided students with a backstage pass to hospital operations.

Participants engaged with core concepts like patient confidentiality, infection control, and empathy, while also receiving a primer in basic health insurance knowledge.

They practiced using wheelchairs and were led on a detailed tour of the facility to better understand how each department functions together in patient care.

The program also serves as a stepping stone to more in-depth experiences. Attendees who show continued interest are often encouraged to return for job shadowing or volunteer work at FCHC.

This opportunity gives students a clearer picture of the day-to-day responsibilities in healthcare roles and allows them to interact directly with medical professionals.

According to Volunteer Coordinator Mary Gautz, this exposure helps students determine whether a healthcare career is the right fit.

Attendees consistently express curiosity and motivation to learn more about the diverse job paths available within the industry, from bedside care to behind-the-scenes administrative work.

The next Health Care Camp is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Participation is free but limited to the first 10 students who register.

Interested students from any community are welcome and encouraged to reach out to Mary Gautz, Volunteer Coordinator, at mgautz@fulhealth.org or by calling 419-330-2695.
