The 9th Annual Dennis Deeds Suicide Awareness Memorial Ride took place at the Wauseon VFW this past Saturday, August 16th, as riders and community members came together to raise awareness and support suicide prevention efforts.
The memorial ride has become a meaningful tradition each year, honoring the memory of Dennis Deeds while working to provide hope and resources for those who may be struggling. This year’s program included guest speaker Sheila Ruby, who addressed the crowd at 11:00 a.m.
Once 11:30 a.m. came around, the riders assembled, engines were started, and kickstands went up as around 145 motorcycles began the ride.
The route led participants from Ottokee Street to The Log Cabin Tavern near Liberty Center, then to the Libertarians Buckeye Basin Motor Club, the Morenci Legion, and finally back to Wauseon.
As in past years, proceeds from the event will help organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness Four County, which provides free support, education, and advocacy for individuals and their families.
Funds are raised through registration fees, t-shirt sales, and silent auctions, with a special focus on supporting veterans in need.
Beyond the ride itself, the event carries a message that reaches far beyond one day. Suicide has touched many lives, and the memorial ride stands as a reminder that no one has to face those challenges alone.
If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 to be connected with support.
