The Pike-Delta-York Local School District has announced the retirement of head football coach Mike Vicars.
Vicars was previously with Delta from 1999-2006 and again in 2013 before returning in 2024. “In just the past two years, Coach Vicars made a tremendous difference both on and off the field,” the press release stated.
Vicars compiled a career record of 203-129 during his forty plus years on sideline, getting his 200th career win this past season. During his latest stint with Delta, he led the Panthers to back-to-back playoff appearances.
“From the moment he arrived, he established a true family atmosphere within the football program – one built on trust, accountability, and pride,” the release continued.
“Coach Vicars is truly one of a kind,” the release states. “His passion for the game, his commitment to student-athletes, and his ability to bring people together left a lasting imprint on our program and our school community.
“We are forever grateful for his contributions to Delta Panther football and the positive example he set for our players, coaches, and fans.”
Assistant Coach Mark Nagel will become the interim head coach, and the rest of the coaching staff has all committed to return under his leadership.
“His appointment allows us to retain our coaching staff from the past two seasons and provides consistency as we prepare for the year ahead.”
