METAMORA (February 28, 2026) – For the second time in the last three years, Archbold emerged as Division III sectional wrestling tournament champions behind a dominating performance at Evergreen High School.
After ending a nearly two-decade-old title drought in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last weekend, the Bluestreaks advanced 13 of 14 wrestlers along with one alternate into the district tournament at Rossford High School.
The Bluestreaks tallied 259½ points to win the sectional title, earning six individual crowns, five of those coming from an outstanding freshman class.
“We wrestled well today and I’m proud of all the guys,” said Archbold head coach Cody Ruffer.
“Obviously our ultimate goal was 14, but we’ll take 13 and quite a few champs. We had a good day today.
“We have a pretty good sectional here because Delta is good and so is Liberty Center and Tinora has some solid kids. Going out with this many is pretty sweet.”
Archbold got titles from freshmen Brenden Bosco (106), Ty Bosco (120), Isaac Brown (132), Kayden Wellman (144) and Layne Miller (150) along with junior Hunter Warner (190).
Brenden Bosco faced Liberty Center’s Braxton Tammarine in a rematch of last week’s NWOAL final in which Bosco rallied from behind late to defeat Tammarine, 13-9.
This time, it was Bosco who turned his offensive attack up a notch with a 21-3 technical fall victory over his league archrival. It also marked the fourth time this year that Bosco has defeated Tammarine.
His brother Ty Bosco squared off against Gabe Stevens of Swanton and emerged with a close 5-2 decision over the Bulldogs’ senior. Earlier, he won his first two matches via pins in less than 50 seconds combined.
Brown pinned Luke Spiess of Delta in 1:12 for his title. Wellman, who had posted a technical fall victory (17-1) and a first period fall (48 seconds) in his first matches, decisioned Tinora Nolan Rittenhouse, 7-1, in the finals.
Miller squared off against NWOAL archrival Chase Godwin in a rematch of last week’s league final in which Godwin prevailed with a 4-1 overtime decision. This time, it was Miller who gained a little revenge with a 7-5 decision over Godwin.
Warner, who had squeaked past Delta’s Wyatt Flickinger, 5-4, in the semifinals, had no problem with Liberty Center’s Deagan Schwaiger in a 15-3 major decision in the title bout.
“This sets us up well for districts, especially becoming a sectional champ or even a third place when you’re not catching the No. 1 right away,” said Ruffer. “We got to continue to work hard and stay the course.”
Delta who finished as runner-up in the team standings with 224 ½ points advanced 11 wrestlers with five sectional champions, Tyler Barnes (126), Lane Lopez (157), Gunner Taylor (165), Marcus Nagel (175), and Brady Smith (285).
Barnes pinned Lars Soles of Archbold in 2:27. Lopez decisioned Brady Badenhop of Liberty Center, 7-1. Taylor decisioned Ashton Stuckey of Archbold, 4-1. Nagel defeated Ethan Bowman of Archbold in a 17-2 technical fall.
Smith edged Logan Sifuentes of Liberty Center, in a rematch of last week’s league final in which Sifuentes had pinned Smith.
“We’re proud of the kids, and they came in and battled hard,” said Delta head coach Mark Nagel. “They did exactly what we had talked to them about, climbing up a spot, one spot each week and just getting better each day.”
Also winning sectional titles were Braedyn Tammarine (113) and Daine Bayer (138) of Liberty Center and Eli Berner (215) of Ayersville.
Liberty Center was third (196 ½) followed by Tinora (157 ½), Evergreen (86), Ayersville (76 ½), Swanton (68), Hicksville (53 ½), Montpelier (42), Edgerton (22), Fairview (18) and Edon (0).
