WAGON RESTORED … The Diesel Mechanic Junior/Senior Lab students. Instructor Mr. Blue (missing from photo).
Students in the Diesel Mechanics program at Four County Career Center, under the direction of instructor Mr. Denton Blue, recently completed a full-scale restoration project for 4-H Camp Palmer — giving new life to a wagon that will serve campers for years to come.
The project provided students with valuable hands-on experience as they worked from the ground up to rebuild the wagon.
Their efforts included repainting the wheels, replacing tires, repacking wheel bearings, installing new seals, reengineering the steering mechanism, straightening structural components, and fully reassembling the running gear.
Through each step, students applied technical skills while gaining real-world experience in equipment repair and restoration.
All materials used for the project were generously donated by an anonymous supporter who values 4-H, FFA, the Henry County Fair, and the importance of giving back to the community.
The success of this project was made possible through strong collaboration, including the leadership of Mr. Blue and coordination with Haley Buckmaster, Executive Director of 4-H Camp Palmer, both of whom were instrumental in bringing this opportunity to life.
While the project highlighted the technical abilities of the students, it also served a greater purpose. By contributing their time and skills, students were able to support an organization that plays a meaningful role in the lives of young people across the region.
This restoration represents more than a completed project — it reflects the importance of service, teamwork, and community impact.
The hay wagon will now be used at 4-H Camp Palmer, creating lasting experiences and memories for future generations of campers.
