The Springfield Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, July 29. Trustees present were Steve Planson, Eric Creighton and Ed Ruffer. Also present were Fiscal Officer Patti Rosebrock and Road Supervisor Mike Short.

Planson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Trustees approved the minutes from the July 15 meeting and the payment of bills as presented.

Trustees were updated on the Hickory Hills subdivision project. It will involve reshaping a portion of the ditches in the subdivision

Rosebrock suggested sending letters notifying residents affected by the project. She said the township does not have a date yet but added that residents could be told the work will likely be done this fall.

The letters will outline the project’s goal of improving drainage and mention that the trustees will hire a contractor.

Trustees then made a motion to accept a $12,500 price quote from LA King Excavating LLC of Wauseon to regrade and reshape the ditches. The price quote does not include reseeding and landscape repair.

Rosebrock and the trustees talked back and forth about hiring somebody for a year for Short, who will be retiring in December 2027.

After reviewing his W-2 statements, she went through the wages Short earned last year along with the insurance costs involved.

If the township decides to hire a new employee for a whole year, it will cost $59,000, assuming the same salary and insurance benefits Short currently receives.

Rosebrock reminded the trustees of the upcoming countywide trustee meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the county engineer’s office.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
