Swanton Library Announces Upcoming Adult Programming

Join the Swanton Library for a variety of classes and informational sessions.

The series of Cardmaking Classes, led by Anna Geis, continues in August with the theme of “At the Fair!” The class will be held Thursday, August 18 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm and the fee is $5 for 3 cards. Samples of completed cards are on display at the library. Children 8 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Fulton County Residents ages 60 and older can receive help with Medicare, bills, applications and more. Valerie Edwards, Information and Referral Specialist from the Fulton County Senior Center, will be at the Swanton Public Library on Thursday, August 18 from 10 am till noon. For information about this event, please call the Senior Center at 419-337-9299 to schedule an appointment for this free service.

Chess continues to be offered Wednesday evenings at 6 pm. and Saturdays at 1:00 pm. The chess group, led by Joe Mossa, is growing steadily, so come join in for a challenging game!

Beginning Yoga, with instructor Aimee Strohbeck, will be offered on Mondays, August 22 and 29 from 10:15 – 11:45 am this month. These sessions are slightly more advanced than those on Thursdays, providing students with an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available.

Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Intro to Yoga will be offered on Thursday, August 25 from 10:15- 11:45 am. Class fee is by donation, with proceeds benefitting the library. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Chair Yoga involves the same poses done in a Hatha class, modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. The chair yoga class will be held on Thursday, August 25 from 2-3 pm. Class fee is $5. Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothes.

On Wednesday, August 24 from 7-8 pm Chris Cremean of Swanton Healthcare will present “Becoming a Dementia-Friendly Community”. Chris will share tips and best practices for working and living with those dealing with this disease. Please call to register for this free program or register online.

On Thursday, August 25 from 7-8 pm, the library will offer a presentation by Susan Dittes, manager of the diabetes education department at FCHC. Ms. Dittes will provide information and suggestions for managing and controlling pre-diabetes. “Small changes in your current behaviors will help prevent or delay getting diabetes, including healthy eating habits, physical activity and weight loss. Come and learn about each of these and how to begin making small changes for a significant improvement in your health!” This free program is open to all.
