Jake and Amanda PictureOn New Year’s Day 2016 Jacob underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor which was discovered just days prior, & 5 days later suffered a severe TBI – Traumatic Brain Injury, that also caused a stroke. He remained in a coma on a respirator for 2 months, & spent 5 months undergoing intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Jacob has had to relearn to talk, eat, walk, & just the simple daily tasks we all take for granted. The stroke affected his peripheral vision in his left eye. The TBI also affected his ability to sleep, & even though he starts his day many times exhausted, he has made slow but steady gains. His memory was also affected, & sadly he does not remember dating his wife or their wedding day, but has always known that he loves her. Jacob wants to make new memories with his wife Amanda, & she has been by his side daily, supporting & caring for him non-stop. They have also been supported by Jake’s parents Mike & Randy Sattler, his sister Jen, Amanda’s parents Owen & Sue Ronau, & many friends & family. Jake is also the grandson of Margaret Sattler.

Jake graduated from Evergreen High School in 2000, where he played football & baseball. He also assisted coaching Evergreen’s middle school football team. He then served in the Navy aboard the USS Nashville during the IRAQ Freedom Campaign. He is a member of the Catholic War Vets Post 306, & prior to his TBI Jake drove truck for Eagleview Logistics. He resides with his wife Amanda in Lyons, Ohio.

Although his journey is nothing short of a miracle, he still has a long way to go. Friends & family are hosting a benefit in Jacob’s honor on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Middle School, 14544 Co Rd 6, Metamora, Ohio. There will be a spaghetti dinner, pulled pork, tacos, & an ice cream bar.

Activities will include a 50/50 raffle (need not be present to win), silent auction, basket auction, & a cornhole tournament.

All proceeds will help the family with expenses for the continuation of Jake’s healing & rehabilitation. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, please contact: Mary Hassen (419) 829-3613, Pat Schroeder (419) 337-6559, Lois Marvin (419) 825-1440.
