An Indiana company has announced it has opened a new facility in Edgerton.

Covington Box has taken over the former Fleetwood building for its needs. The business will employ five workers at the start.

The site in on Railroad Street and will be named Covington East.

The village welcomed the company to town with a press release.

“We are thrilled to see the transformation of the previous “Fleetwood” building and look forward to supporting this business in Edgerton,” Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles said. “One of greatest things about Edgerton is the people. Edgerton has become a place where people root their talents, hard work, and dedication.

“Businesses like Covington East, provide a foundation for our residents and other businesses to thrive.”

The company is equally excited about coming to Edgerton. The company was founded in 1981 in Ashley, Ind. Its purposed was to fill the void of quick order turnarounds, vendor managed inventory, smaller release quantities and specialized packaging.

The company started with five employees and a 20,000-square-foot facility and the philosophy of “Providing to the customer WHAT they want, WHEN they need it” began, the press release stated. “Covington Box and Packaging is a company with a proven track record of excellence in the corrugated packaging industry.”

The company’s market focus is primarily in the northeast region with heavy emphasis on Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The company’s line of corrugated caskets and cremation products are distributed on a national level.

The company moved to Waterloo, Ind., in 1991 and today employs 85 people in 200,000-square-foot manufacturing/warehouse facility.
Covington has become one of the largest distributors of corrugated and other packaging products in the three surrounding states.

The company recently purchased a 30-acre parcel that encompasses a large 87,000 square feet facility that was formerly known as the Fleetwood manufacturing facility.

The expansion in Edgerton, now known as Covington East, will allow it to better serve its customers and meet a high demand, particularly in the produce season.

In other Edgerton news, Fitzcharles reported the Summer Food program served 209 children more than 1,400 meals.
