A maintenance assistant is leaving the Wauseon school district to enter the mission field.

Jason Suon, a six-year employee for the district, submitted a letter of resignation with his announced intention of building a permanent school for the children of Haitian immigrants working in the sugar cane fields of the Dominican Republic. His last day will be Dec. 30.

The Board of Education accepted his resignation Oct. 27, as well as one from Katie Black as District Mentor, effective Oct. 10.

In other personnel moves, the board approved:
– Lisa Kuszmaul as a substitute bus driver, retroactive to Jan. 7.

– A one-year limited certificated non-athletic supplemental contract to Mark Britsch as a district mentor at Step 8+ on the approved salary scale.

– Melanie Hoot as classified substitute and Marin Miller as a student pool worker.

The board accepted $1,010 from the Wauseon Rotary Club to the WES Student Activity Fund and $250 from Don’s Automotive Group, LLC, to the WES Food Pantry and Student Activity Fund.

The board approve several “Then and Now” certificates. The 20-item list seemed extensive, but interim district Treasurer Ted Penner said it was a matter of housekeeping.

Penner said he has been busy meeting other demands as treasurer and was finally able to process the purchases. Some of the purchases date back to December 2015.

Penner said he would be able to work with the new treasurer for as long as needed.
