Don’t miss Family Fun Night at the Normal Memorial Library December 16th at 7 pm. Snacks will be provided and you could win a prize by playing Christmas Bingo. Join us and Terri Lobowsky from Pete’s Posey Patch in West Unity on Monday, December 12th at 6:30 pm. Terri will be conducting a class on how to make Christmas centerpieces. The cost of the class is $20. Please call the library or visit the adult circulation desk to sign up for this class.
The November Monthly Challenge of Guess the Candy was guessed correctly by two people. Jerry Landis won the pumpkin pie and John Schaffner won the 101 pieces of candy. The December Challenge is the Christmas Song Challenge. Fill in the missing words to the Christmas songs for a chance to win a Christmas CD or a Hot Cocoa Mug.
In November, the original glass doors from 1967 were replaced from our entryway. The original doors had lost the installation and were unable to keep the lobby cool in the summer months and warm during the winter. The replacement doors will keep the lobby at the determined temperature due to solar cool glass technology. The upgrade was funded partially by an anonymous donation we received earlier this year. Visit the library and see how nice the building looks.
The after school program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 pm. Kindergartners and first graders meet on Tuesdays while second through fifth graders meet on Thursdays.
Story Time at the library is meant for children ages 2 to 5 who do not yet attend kindergarten. If your child is 2 or 3 years old, an adult is required to stay with the child at all times. Visit the library Mondays from 6:30 to 7:00 pm to participate in Story Time.
Mark your calendars to join in all the fun of the library in January. Maren William will be speaking of Permaculture. Permaculture is working with natural forces such as wind, sun, and water with minimum labor and without depleting the land. More details about January events will be featured in our January Newsletter.
The Story Trail at Harrison Lake State Park is continuing! For the month of December, the story will be The Christmas Story by Glenn Beck. The trail begins by the Camp Offices and proceeds through the woods to enjoy nature’s beautiful scenery.
The Book Club will meet Thursday December 15 at 7 pm to discuss A Quilt for Christmas by Sandra Dallas. The synopsis of this book is, “In 1864 Eliza Spooner’s husband, Will, has joined the Kansas Volunteers to fight the Confederates, leaving her with their two children and in charge of their home and land. Eliza is confident that he will return home, and she helps pass the months making a special quilt to keep Will warm during his winter in the army. When the unthinkable happens, she takes in a woman and child who have been left alone and made vulnerable by the war, and she finds solace and camaraderie among the women of her quilting group. When she is asked to help hide an escaped slave, she must decide for herself what is right, and who she can count on to help her.” Interested in joining the Book Club? The Adult Coloring class meets every second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8. You can come anytime during that time period. Use the books and colors we provide or bring you own. The next meeting is December 14. You can call the library for more information about the class.
