The Ginnivan Auditorium at the Fayette Opera House will be filled with the sounds of harmony on Saturday, March 11th when one of the region’s finest musical ensembles, the Stateline Chorus returns to Fayette for a 7:30 performance.
Organized Barbershop Singing in Northwest Ohio began in 1945 with the Toledo Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, which itself had only begun in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1938. In 1966 there was a division between those Toledo Chapter men who were interested in quartet and chorus competition and those who preferred to sing just for fun. At that time the Maumee Valley Chapter was formed to serve the needs of the men whose primary interest was in competition and the fun singers remained with the Toledo Chapter.
In the early 80s, the Toledo Chapter’s agreed to join the Monroe Michigan Chapter.
In 1996, after a few years together it became obvious that there were again two factions with differing goals and the Toledo men became the Black-Swamp Chapter.
Today we’ve come full circle. The struggling Maumee Valley members have reunited with the Blackswamp Chapter and this combined group (the Stateline Chorus) presentation will be a scrumptious diet of “Songs of the Sixties” well-seasoned with a sprinkling of Good Old Fashioned Barbershop Standards. WA la!!! … Everything Old … indeed is … New Again… Enjoy the journey.
The concert is a part of the Fayette Artist Series and, as always, a reception for the performers and guests will take place in the Rorick Room following the concert.
