Fayette Bus Driver Named Best In The State Of Ohio

A Fayette school bus driver has beaten out a field of 19,000 competitors and been named as best in the state.

Superintendent Erik Belcher made the announcement about Ivy Kunkle at the Board of Education’s meeting March 13. Kunkle will receive the award soon and the board will honor her at its April meeting.

In other news:
Twenty-four students signed up to be screened for kindergarten. The school typically receives another five to seven students. Officials are hopeful to start the year with 32 students and two teachers.

The preschool has 28 students signed up, which is more than this time last year. Superintendent Erik Belcher said the district can expect close to 40 students by the fall.

The planned irrigation project is now around $49,500. That’s down from $80,000 when the project was in the design phase, Belcher said.


When installed, the system will greatly reduce the number of manhours needed to irrigate. Maintenance will be minimal with blowouts for the system scheduled twice a year, along with audits for the heads.

The Student Services Report shows preschool enrollment for the current year is 41.
Seniors will attend a career day April 6. The event will include summer intern opportunities and mock interviews that can lead to real job ffers.

New Horizons Academy is now a non-public charter school. This will require districts to provide transportation or pay for transportation to the school.


The staff continued with the Mindset book study with teacher- and administrator-led discussion groups. Gifted professional development was completed through an online program called GT Ignite that allows teachers to pick their professional development course and do so under the guidance of a gifted expert.

The school has 22 students in the English Language Learners program. OELPA testing has completed.

Elementary school students will participate in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Hearts March 31.


NHS Induction is 8 p.m. April 24.

Enrollment numbers are as follows: Elementary 235; high school, 203 and 20 for Four County Career Center.

Government class students will tour Fulton County government offices, April 6.

The ninth-grade boys basketball team went 10-0 and won the BBC championship and tournament.

FFA members will attend Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum at Carrollton, June 26-30. The state FFA convention May 4-5. A senior trip to Newport, Kentucky and Cincinnati is set for April 19-22.

Hirings included Tina Snider as a classified substitute (secretary); Miranda Bible as a classified substitute (cafeteria) for 2016-17.


The board approved a supplemental contract Andrew Vanzile as varsity track coach for 2016-17.

Brenda Wagner (Volleyball coach) and Jacy Wagner (assistant) had one-year supplemental contracts approved for 2017-18.

Kate Borer for volunteer track coach for 2016-17.
