Sylvania Township – The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred on Bancroft Street east of Irwin Road in Sylvania Township at approximately 5:15 AM.

A 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 62-year-old Thomas P. Connors of Swanton, Ohio was traveling westbound on Bancroft Street when his vehicle failed to maintain control on the wet pavement.  The vehicle exited the left side of the roadway, where it struck a utility pole, and a tree.

Mr. Connors was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and a safety belt was not in use at the time of the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Richfield Township Fire Department, Springfield Township Fire Department, and the Lucas County Sheriff’s office.

The crash remains under investigation.
