Gene Dargitz of Edon will be part of the “Rallying for Robby” team walking at the 2013 Defiance County Relay for Life on June 28. He will be walking at the annual American Cancer Society event on behalf of the people of Edon and Blakeslee for former resident David Robinson.

At the end of last month, Dave, a 1985 graduate of Edon High School and current Athletic Director at Fairview High School, was diagnosed with lung cancer. A non-smoker his entire life, the news came as a shock not only to his personal family but to his Fairview family as well.

Team “Rallying for Robby”, comprised of teachers at Fairview, looks to have someone with their personalized tee shirt on the track all eighteen hours of the Relay. Designed by the Robinson family in their much-loved colors of gold and black, the shirts sport the slogan “Healthy, Healthy, Healthy” adapted from one of Dave’s favorite television shows, Duck Dynasty. An energetic alligator ~ the charming character Dave came up with ~ represents his children and their love of alligators, dance and sports.

“My daughter graduated with David,” noted Dargitz. “I wanted to walk not only as a way of giving back but to support Dave in his fight as well.”
