Locals with the Americans For Prosperity held out signs and invited drivers into the Sunoco gas station in Fayette to partake in gas that was being sold for $2.38 per gallon.
State Organizer Donovan O’Neil explained that this was part of their Bidenomics as Bad Economics Tour, and that the selling of gas for $2.38 per gallon was to show what the price was at on the day Biden was sworn into office. Gas was being sold for $3.70 per gallon at the station before the group made the change.
The tour has been going on since the beginning of this year and has been traveling throughout the State of Ohio.
In fact, the group had also been to Montpelier the day before, as well as at another location, due to the gas stations being owned by the same individual. At each location, representatives with Americans for Prosperity (AFP) take time to speak with drivers, as they wait in line, about the impacts of inflation and how “all the prices have increased dramatically under this administration and its inflationary policies”, said O’Neil.
The difference in price between what the market rate is and what drivers are paying during an AFP event is picked up entirely by AFP.
“What we do is, we partner with gas stations like this one and we agree on a market rate for the day. We then pay for the difference to make it $2.38 a gallon.
In that way, Ohioans get a break from Bidenomics and remember what it was like before. It has worked phenomenally for us.”
“Just the sheer number of conversations that take place is incredible and it gives us the chance to talk policy as a grassroots organization.”
“Part of the reason we are here, in the 9th district, is because Marcy Kaptur and Sherrod Brown have consistently voted for the Biden Harris policy agendas in the past 4 years and have consistently voted for legislation that has put us, as of today, $35 trillion in debt.”
“As for our conversations, we normally ask everyone two questions. What would it take to bring prices back to Earth and we ask them what they would say to their elected officials about their responsibility.”
“Generally, the responses we get are, stop spending, unleash American energy generation, and have politicians work on solutions for people instead of kicking the can down the road.”
Andrea Christenson was one of those individuals spoken to while waiting in line at the pump. The line was very long and was even wrapped all the way around the building with some cars having to go by the gas station, turn around, and come back. Christenson was asked the questions stated above.
She answered and explained that, after Sherrod Brown was elected as senator, she sent an email to his office.
“He doesn’t want to hear what I have to say to him. Shortly after he was elected our senator, I sent him an email telling him I disagreed, it was a very polite email, with his stance, and told him why I felt the way I did about my stance and everything.”
“One of his staffers sent me back an email and said that they didn’t give a crap what I thought.”
Christenson also stated her opinion that gas prices would go down if the U.S. worked harder on ethanol projects and increased drilling.
