On Monday, June 29, 2026, the Archbold Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting in the high school media center with members Tyson Stuckey, Gina Benecke, and Chris Ziegler in attendance while board members Jeremy Hurst and Skeat Hug were absent.
Addressing housekeeping matters before proceeding, board member Ziegler was appointed as treasurer pro tem in Interim Treasurer John Kahmann’s absence. After revising the agenda to remove a duplicate item, Benecke offered a motion to approve the amended agenda with Stuckey seconding.
In his report, Superintendent Jayson Selgo welcomed new 2026-2027 staff members, including Luke Brewster, who will be serving as the district’s new high school and middle school band director.
Other new educators include Robert Orta, who will be teaching math and STEM in the middle school, and high school teacher Nathan Jean-Louis.
Also joining the district next year are Brittany Spotts, who will serve as a bus driver, and playground aide Kyrin Tester.
Selgo reported that upon approval by board members, the district will once again enter into an agreement with Edon Northwest Schools to provide Spanish instruction remotely to Edon students.
“For the past several years, we’ve partnered with Edon to provide remote instruction for Spanish classes.
“So, we hire two Spanish teachers, and one of those two teachers does offer a remote Spanish instruction to Edon because it’s the best option they have available,” Selgo explained.
“So we’re able to share employee costs while Edon gains access to courses that would otherwise not be available.”
Selgo also elaborated on policy updates and handbooks before the board for approval. He noted that among policy updates were two that addressed acceptable AI use.
He also shared that beginning the next school year, the district will implement a three-hour delay.
“One of the minor tweaks we’re making is we are preparing to implement a three-hour delay schedule for next year, that, due to hours, we’ve looked at this.
“It probably won’t be our first choice; we’ll probably stick primarily to the two-hour delay. But, in the event there’s fog, sometimes that extra hour can potentially help save a day. Especially if we get another year like this year, where we missed a lot of days due to weather.”
Speaking on financial matters, Connie Nicely, who will be taking over the helm as the school’s treasurer on July 1, read interim treasurer Kahmann’s report and noted that as of June 27, the district’s revenue was 1.4% higher than forecasted for the fiscal year and expenditures were 2.2% less than anticipated. “So we came in really, really close to budget compared to last year,” Nicely added.
Addressing the Consensus Agenda, the board approved the May 19 regular meeting minutes, financial reports, and bills.
Also approved were fiscal year 2026 final appropriations, fund-to-fund transfers, and fiscal year 2027 temporary appropriations.
The board additionally authorized the treasurer to make any transfers and advances as required with board approval at the next regular meeting.
The board also renewed its package, pollution and cyber insurance coverage through the Ohio School Plan, and approved the district’s participation in all federal programs, including the Federal Lunch and Breakfast Programs for fiscal year 2027.
New, revised, replaced, or deleted policies, including 5200, 7540.03, and 7540.09, were also adopted.
The board approved revisions to several district handbooks and fees for the 2026-2027 school year. Updates were made to AES Student and Faculty Handbooks, AMS Student and Faculty Handbooks, AHS Student and Faculty Handbooks, AMS and AHS Coaches Handbooks, and the High School Student-Athlete Handbook.
A 2026-2027 school year agreement with Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training and Rehabilitation Center Educational Agreement at $91 per student, per weekday for students assigned to NWOJDT & RC, as well as an agreement with Wood County Juvenile Detention Center and the Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio, were approved.
A $131.25 student teacher stipend for Dina Gladieux was authorized. Miscellaneous pay was also approved for Michele Bagrowski ($4,779.06), Andrea Thiel ($3,463.50), Matt Shields ($31.00), and Esther Rupp ($239.00).
In personnel matters, supplemental volunteers and one-year supplemental contracts for the 2026-2027 school year were approved, as well as the contract for Spanish Instruction with Edon Northwest Local School District.
One-year contracts for the 2026-2027 school year were approved for several new staff members, including Luke Brewster, Robert Orta and Nathan Jean-Louis as teachers, Brittany Spotts as a bus driver and Kyrin Tester as a playground aide.
The board accepted the resignations of Sarah VonSeggern, as of the end of the 2025-2026 school year, and Addison Ziegler, effective May 29, 2026.
The next Archbold Board of Education meeting is set for Monday, August 17, 2026, at 5 p.m. in the high school media center.
