This compares with the third quarter of 2011 reporting of no fatal traffic crashes in Williams County. Fall is the season for harvest and unfortunately deer–vehicle accidents. Most deer-vehicle accidents occur during the months of October, November and December. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety; Ohio Traffic Crash Facts 2009-2011, Paulding County recorded 229, 226, and 213 yearly deer-vehicle accidents for a total of 668 collisions during that three year period. Because deer are inclined to be active during low-light hours, a majority of deer-vehicle accidents occur at dusk and dawn as we commute to and from work according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Stryker-Wanda Jane Reynolds, age 95, of Stryker, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2012 at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center. Prior to her retirement she had worked at the Mendelson Egg Company in West Unity for 30 years. Wanda was born in Montpelier on November 2, 1917, the daughter of Arthur and Ila Mae (Todd) Biddle. In 1934 she married Gerald Shaffer and he preceded her in death in 1938. In 1943 she married Morris Reynolds, and he preceded her in death in 1978. She attended the Presbyterian Church in West Unity. Fayette veteran’s lunch at Fayette American Legion. The American Government and Social Studies classes taught by Mrs. Hintz lended a hand to the effort, greeting veteran’s at the door, taking food and drink orders, and serving them their meals. The volunteers ate last and, once everyone had their food, Alejandra Gonzalez got up and read a poem she had written for the veterans.
Richard Wityk graduated from Bryan High School. At 19 years of age, he enlisted in the Air Force. He did this because at the time, 1966, it was either enlist or be drafted and Mr. Wityk’s father, an ex-military man himself, let Richard know in no uncertain terms that it was better to enlist than be drafted. Mr. Wityk listened and ended up exploring his options and finding out that the Air Force was a better fit for him given his mechanical inclinations and a construction background. “It was the best fit for me,” Mr. Wityk said. “I didn’t want…
On November 12, the students at Hilltop convened in the gymnasium for the annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. The assembly was highlighted musical performances from the first, second, third, and fourth grade, poetry readings about military service, and guest speaker Lynn Thompson. The assembly started with technical difficulties involving the sound system; the National Anthem wouldn’t play, but that didn’t stop Mrs. Schaeffer and the rest in attendance from singing the National Anthem sans musical backup. North Central School’s first through sixth graders and the high school chorus gave three cheers for the red, white, and blue in their annual Veteran’s Day Program on November 12. The First annual Kellen Keiser Memorial Run took place this past Saturday, November 10, at the Fayette High School. The event is held in honor of the Late Kellen Keiser of Fayette who passed away at the age of 15 after a 16 month battle with leukemia.
