The Edon Northwest Local Board of Education addressed a straightforward agenda when it convened in regular session Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in the school’s Media Center. President Suzanne McCullough called the meeting to order with all board members in attendance.
In action taken, the Board:

•Commended October 2012 High School Student of the Month, sophomore Karlee Trausch and October 2012 Middle School Student of the Month, seventh grader Kati Ewers.
•Accepted a twenty dollar anonymous Cash Donation to the Music Fund and Gift Donations from Bennett Seeds ($1500 ~ one hundred bushel soybeans) and Edon Athletic Boosters ($218.49 ~ Athletic Training Equipment).
•Approved an amendment to American Fidelity Section 125 Plan Document.

•Approved the Senior Class Retreat to Pioneer Boy Scout Camp, December 1-3, 2012.
•Heard Treasurer Kerry Sample’s standard SM2 Report indicating revenues were flat and expenses down thirty-six thousand dollars for the same four-month period as last year. The District is currently tracking thirty-six thousand dollars better than a year ago. (Revenues begin falling off this month when personal property tax reimbursements will be forty-six thousand dollars less than last year. Moreover, State Funding adjustments will likely take place next month; indications are the District will see another revenue decrease based on this year’s lower enrollment numbers.)
•Approved a 2012-2013 Substitute Food Service Cashier Contract with Tina Parrish.
•Approved 2012-2013 Supplemental Contracts with Mark Blue (Volunteer Assistant Musical Production); Pam Rupp (Volunteer Fellowship of Christian Athletes Advisor); Terry Whitney (5th and 6th Grade Girls Basketball/fifty percent (revised) and Junior High Assistant Boys and Girls Track); Amy Brandt (5th and 6th Grade Girls Basketball/fifty percent); Brock England (Varsity Baseball/fifty percent); Kenneth (Bud) Wells (Varsity Baseball/fifty percent); Brien Moore (Assistant Baseball); Jay Klingler (Volunteer Assistant Baseball); Barb Figgins (Varsity Girls Track) and Jan Sonneberger (Assistant Boys and Girls Varsity Track).

•Accepted the resignation of Don Walton, Varsity/JV Volleyball Co-Coach, effective at the end of the current contract year.
•Approved Maternity Leave for Jacqueline Hake commencing on or around December 31, 2012.
•Approved amendments to 2012-2013 Bus Routes for Sharon Aeschliman (Regular ~ 2.50 hrs. to 3.00 hrs.) and Cindy Slattery (Regular ~ 2.50 hrs. to 3.00 hrs.)
•Approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Northwest State Community College regarding Project Jump Start. (Includes an opportunity for high school students to participate in dual enrollment classes, simultaneously earning college and high school credits without leaving their home school; students, with the successful completion of one or more PJS class through NSCC, are eligible for a scholarship ~ up to five hundred dollars ~ at the school upon graduation.)
•Approved minutes from the regular Board meeting held Tuesday, October 9.
•Approved October’s Financial Reports along with the Amended Certificate of Estimated Resources and Permanent Appropriation Increases/Decreases for FY 2013.
•Learned the Policy Committee would convene at the conclusion of the regular session to review suggested changes.
•Voted to enter into Executive Session to discuss employment of public employees; no action was taken.
Additionally that evening, several Edon High School FFA Chapter members presented a slideshow of highlights from their recent FFA National Convention trip.
Seventeen members from Edon, traveling together with members from Edgerton and Ayersville FFA Chapters, visited Wilson Football Factory in Ada; the Neil Armstrong Museum in Wapakoneta; GMS High Performance Machining in Dayton and Jungle Jim’s International Market in Cincinnati before heading onto Indianapolis for the National Convention.
While there, everyone attended several interesting sessions along with a Buckeye Bash, Career and College Fair, country concert and rodeo. They also proudly supported past EHS graduates, Joey Brown and Dezra Goebel, as each received their American FFA Degree.
The Edon Northwest Local Board of Education will next meet Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in the school’s Media Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
