ASSEMBLY FOR SAFETY … A safety assembly for over 500 new Four County Career Center students was recently held at the school. The assembly was held to promote safety in the Career Center for all students, personnel, and visitors. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Fernando Chavez and Henry County Sheriff John Nye both stressed the importance of safe driving habits. They emphasized that obeying traffic laws is vital as well as paying attention to speed limits and the actions of other drivers. The Fayette FFA Chapter was very busy during the Fulton County Fair in the past week. Not only did some of the members compete with their 4-H projects there was also many various activities the students participated in during the course of the fair. Every year our chapter volunteers to work in the pork stand. This year we had 42 students sign up for a time shift and help make the sandwiches as well as serve them. The North Central School board met on Monday, September 24, with a short agenda. The first item of business was to approve a motion to include the FFA’s (Future Farmers of America) trip to the annual convention on the consent agenda. The FFA will be sending 15 students and two chaperones to the convention in Indianapolis. Member Chelsea Montag will be receiving the American FFA Degree at the convention. Edith M. Durst, 90 years, of West Unity, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at Hillside Country Living, rural Bryan.  Edith was born April 2, 1922 in Ripley, West Virginia, the daughter of Samuel Curtis and Edna (Pickens) Anderson.  She married Frederick durst on July 16, 1946 in Ripley, West Virginia, and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2000.  Edith was employed as a machine operator for Beatrice Frozen Specialties in Archbold for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1987.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and caring for her family. After a great deal of discussion, council upheld their earlier decision to hold the annual Montpelier Trick or Treat event on Tuesday, October 30 from 6-7 p.m. Angel Fritsch once again presented to council her request to have Trick or Treat moved to a Saturday. Lawrence “Ike” L. Corman, 94 of Alvordton, died Saturday evening at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.  A Williams County resident for most of his life he was born on Christmas Eve in 1917 in Millcreek Township, Ohio to Henry and Olive B. (Raymond) Corman.  He graduated from West Unity High School in 1936.  After school Ike entered the US Army serving his country during WWII. Ike was a Millcreek Township farmer and did work for Baker-Schindler Construction Company in Defiance as a carpenter retiring in 1982. Ike is survived by one son John (Jackie) Corman of Alvordton,…

Stryker Branch Library would like to invite everyone to join in the fun at their Community Fall Party. The party is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Bruce Abell, Executive Director at Quadco Rehabilitation Center has announced that the center is purchasing two area SUBWAY® Restaurants that will provide for more community employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in northwest Ohio. Speaking to the members of the Quadco Administrative and Non-Profit boards at their joint monthly meeting on Tuesday (Sept. 25), Mr. Abell said the center is acquiring the SUBWAY® Restaurants located in the Walmart stores in Defiance and Bryan. Tyler Herschberger – Pettisville High School The Pettisville Blackbirds are known far and wide for several sports, but golf is not one of them. That is in the process of changing though, and Tyler is at the forefront of that recognition. This senior has a few seasons and a few tee shots under his belt, and the work is paying big dividends. In the mix of combatants on this day were the Pettisville Lady Blackbirds, the Montpelier Lady Locomotives and the Stryker Lady Panthers. MONTPELIER – The final home match of the year went very well for the North Central Eagles as they shot a blazing round of 145 to ease past Archbold, who shot a very respectable 154, and Delta with a 177. MORENCI, MI – The Stryker Panthers packed up their clubs and headed north for a conference showdown with the Fayette Eagles on September 18th.  The unfamiliar surroundings posed no obstacles for the Panthers as they downed the Eagles 165-192.
