February 16, 2025: On a snowy afternoon, NW Ohio’s 15 Bible Quiz teams met for the fifth time in 2025. King’s Cross’s Bible Quiz coach, Seth Nofziger, led the large crowd in a devotional based on the day’s scripture from Acts, chapters 3 to 5. Central Mennonite’s pastor, Ron Kauffman, had prayer before quizzing commenced in four locations.
Five different quiz teams have now won the first five events, making this year uniquely fun to watch. Sunday’s highest scoring team, King’s Cross’s Brothers (14-3-1) averaged 122.5 points and moved into third place for the season by winning all four of their matches.
Precept’s The Hills (14-4) averaged 115 and went 3-1 for the day, placing the team in fourth place in the league. The Hills still hold the highest one day average of 144 points which was achieved at the January 26 meet. Eastland Baptist’s Waymaker (15-2-1) averaged 110 and is still in first place after winning their four matches Sunday.
Waymaker had won the kick-off tournament back on January 5. Fourth highest average of the day, 100, was scored by Central Mennonite’s Short in Stature (5-11-1) who won two out of three.
Pettisville Missionary’s Perplexity (11-6-1) averaged 97.5 points and stand alone in fifth place for the season. North Clinton’s Roaring Waves (15-3) won all four matches, averaged 92.5, and stayed in second place.
There are three teams tied for sixth place, all with 500 records. The first team, Eastland Baptist’s Devoted (9-9), had won the January 12 meet.
Second, North Clinton’s Vultures (9-9-1), had won the February 2 meet, and the third team is Central’s Tongues of Fire (8-8-2). All six churches now have a team in the top six places.
King’s Cross’s, The Fellowship (7-9-2), had their best day, winning three out of four, including an upset win over The Hills when Josiah Gibson scored a team bonus on the last question.
The Fellowship was led by rookie quizzer, Konner Brown, who averaged 27.5 points. Teammates are Kegan Brown, Mackenzie Yenser, and siblings Ellie, Jeremiah and Josiah Gibson.
Also having a great day, North Clinton’s Hoioi (5-11-2), also went 3-1 and averaged 90 points. Hoioi is led in scoring by Keren Maldonado, who has a season average of 34.2 points, placing her in fourth place individually out of 81 quizzers. Her teammates are Bekah Nofziger, cousins Carson and Lane Wyse, and siblings Laura and Luke Thomas.
Quizzing out in all their matches on February 16, averaging 35 points, were Bo King, Elijah Grunden, Hope Sheldon, Keren Maldonado, Mathias Neilson, Preston Nofziger, and Zander Stamm.
Seven more averaged 31.3: Bekah Nofziger, Elijah Sheldon, Faith Sheldon, Malaki Neilson, Mollie Roth, rookie Tirzah Beck, and Tony Mingione.
Three quizzers who have quizzed out in every one of their matches so far this season are Stryker Home Schooler, Zander Stamm, and Archbold High Schoolers, Preston Nofziger and Bo King.
The fifth of six league meets is scheduled for Sunday February 23 at North Clinton Church, starting with worship starting at 1:50 and quizzing material covering Acts 6 and 7.
