The Center Township Trustees met in a regular session on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Trustees present were Matthew Grube, Ryan Muehlfeld and Julie Davis. Fiscal Officer Terry Collins, Zoning Inspector Todd Burkholder and Cemetery Sexton Kurt Roan were also in attendance.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes of the Aug. 4 meeting were approved.

Trustees discussed a price quote from Goliath Tree Service of Defiance of $8,200 for the removal of 13 trees and 10 stumps located in Brown Cemetery and six trees and six stumps in Williams Center Cemetery.

Following the discussion, Grube made the motion to approve the price quote with Davis seconding it. The motion passed by a 3-0 vote.

Paid out of the township’s general fund, the tree removal work is expected to be completed within four to six weeks.

Trustees also discussed repair work being done at the flagpole, including the removal of two trees at Brown Cemetery. They will be using the township’s beautification fund for repairs of the flagpole.

Trustees discussed the paving and chip and seal work currently being done in the township. Work has been delayed due to the recent heavy rainfall, but the township is hoping it could be done in September.

Davis brought up the large trash pickup day being done by Jefferson Township and said the township’s employees are there to help unload during the hours of operation.

She added it’s something for trustees to think about — whether Center Township should have a large trash pickup day, perhaps next spring.

In other business:

-Burkholder reported that he issued one permit for an accessory building.

-Roan contacted Homier Monument of Defiance to install two footers next week in Brown Cemetery.

-Trustees went into an executive session to discuss insurance with no action being taken.

Next meeting is on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m.
