On February 9, 2019, at approximately 23:45 hours the Hicksville Police Department, Multi Area Narcotics Unit and the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in the 600 block of East High Street, in the Village of Hicksville. A Defiance County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured during the execution of warrant when a Pit Bull attacked the Deputy during the entry. The dog was shot and killed.

The warrant was executed after a monthlong investigation by the Hicksville Police Department of individuals selling controlled substances and having firearms while being under disability. Officers seized firearms and controlled substances from the residence.

Charges of trafficking in drugs, tampering with evidence, possession of controlled substances, and have weapons under disability will be forwarded to the Defiance County Prosecutors Office. The case is still under investigation.

The injured Deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Defiance County Dog Warden Office and Hicksville EMS assisted at the scene.
