Delta’s Austin Kohlhofer & Archbold’s Carson Meyer Bring Home State Wrestling Titles

WARREN, OHIO-The NWOAL had four wrestlers advance to the championship semifinals of the Division III State Championships at Warren Harding High School with two wrestlers bringing state titles back to Northwest Ohio.

Carson Meyer of Archbold was the first to do it at 182lbs as he pulled out a 3-2 win over Trevor Stewart of Greenon.

Meyer, who finishes his senior season at 50-3, started with a win in the opening round by technical fall 17-1 over Brennon Baud of Kirtland and then pinned Adam Meyers of Springfield Shawnee in the quarterfinals.

Meyer edged Lucas Stoddard form Berkshire 3-2 in the semifinals to advance to the title match.

Austin Kohlhofer collected the second title for Fulton County by winning the 220lb championship to close out the season at 52-0.

Kohlhofer rolled through his first three matches winning them all by pin before knocking off Cade Limes from Otsego 11-4 in the championship round.

Delta, who placed third in the team standings, had a shot at two champions as Michigan bound Zack Mattin wrestled for the top spot at 132.

Mattin however would fall to Camron Lacure from Legacy Christian 7-2 to finish as runner-up and end his senior campaign at 51-2.

Swanton senior Brodie Stevens was the fourth wrestler from the NWOAL to advance to the championship semifinals.

Stevens won his first match by pinning Jake Thiel from Mechanicsburg and then was a 5-3 winner over Ashland St. John’s Ryan Elrod in the quarterfinals.

Stevens would drop his semifinal match by fall to eventual State Champion Jeff Meyer from Columbus Grove before bouncing back to win his third-place match 10-3 over Cadman Roose of Ben Logan.

Delta had four other wrestlers competing led by Evan Hanefeld (106) who lost his first two matches and was eliminated.

Also taking to the mat for the Panthers was Carson Chiesa who placed sixth at 120 pounds, Gabe Meyer (138) placed fifth, and Evan Perry (152) went 1-2 on the weekend.

Archbold got a seventh-place finish from their other state qualifier as Brodie Dominique defeated Kaden Blair from Fairview 3-1 in the 7th/8th place match.

1.Legacy Christian 128.0; 2. Milan Edison 117.5; 3. Delta 73.5; 17. Archbold 30.5; t35. Swanton 16.0
