Diane M. Schmitz, age 57, of Lyons, peacefully passed away at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania on Wednesday morning, June 6, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born in Wauseon on April 21, 1961 to the late Leo “Sunny” Schmitz Jr. and Lois (Hassen) Schmitz who survives. In 1982 she married Hershel Laster.
Diane served as office manager for her family’s business, Sunny’s Campground in Wauseon. Working with camping families was great enjoyment for her as she had a heart of giving. As a hobby she and her husband also camped, but most of all Diane loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Along with her husband of 35 years, Hershel, she is survived by her mother, Lois Schmitz; daughters, Chasity (Max) Nofziger of Wauseon and Crystal (Michael) O’Donnell of Indianapolis, IN; siblings, Judy Schmitz, Nancy (John O.) Martinez Jr., Ron (Beth – deceased) Schmitz, Dan Schmitz, Scott (Deb) Schmitz and Randy (Rae Lynn) Schmitz; grandchildren, Brianna (Aaron) Jenkins, Charles Nofziger, Jacob Nofziger and Annabell O’Donnell.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy 109 in Delta. A funeral service celebrating Diane’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2018 also at the funeral home. Fr. David Bruning will be officiating. Interment will follow at Winameg Cemetery in Delta.
