Edgerton Village Council members met in regular session on Wednesday, December 4th. The meeting began at 5:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer before moving on to approve minutes from the prior meeting held on November 20th.
Remarks were then given by Mayor Day and included kudos to Police Chief Jacob, K9 Ruin and the Edgerton Police Department for their assistance to the county in the apprehension of a suspect on the run.
Mayor Day also thanked the chamber for bringing Santa into town and finding a place indoors because of the cold weather. It was also stated that the Christmas lights are up and that a lot of positive feedback has been received.
Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles then gave the following updates. Petitions have been filed with the court to contest election results for the St. Joseph Township levy that was certified without including Village of Edgerton residents’ votes.
Council members will also notice a bid proposal on the computer that is in regard to the soliciting of filter media for refurbishment at the WTP.
Trash calendars are available at town hall, with a large trash day being scheduled for April 12th, 2025. The boiler at the town hall recently went down and required an emergency repair.
Next, Fiscal Officer Knecht discussed November 2024 financials before also discussing end of year seminars. Council next moved to approve the bills as resented before hearing an update from Police Chief Ken Jacob.
The chief informed council that body cameras have been in use now for around a month and that they are a good tool for the department to have. Council members then moved to approve the following measures.
-The reclassification for Ashlyn Figy from probationary full-time patrolman to full-time patrolman.
-The reclassification of James Walker from full-time street department to part-time general laborer effective 12/31/2024.
-A move to advertise for the street/park department vacant position.
-A request to approve ODOT agreements 41835, 41836, and 41837.
-Ordinance 1146 – establishing the permanent appropriations for year 2025.
-Ordinance 1147 – establishing the salaries and wages for the employees of the Village of Edgerton, Ohio.

-Ordinance 1148 – providing for a supplement to the 2024 Annual Appropriations.
Council then entered into executive session at 6:25 p.m. to discuss the employment and/or wage compensation of a public employee/employees.
Upon council’s return, at 6:52 p.m., members moved to discuss and vote on an on-call policy. The policy is as follows.
“For all Village Departments, including Police, Electric and Public Works, we request to establish an on-call status policy to address on-call time. This policy supersedes all prior negotiations, commitments or agreements.”
“Each department superintendent, with pre-approved signed authorization from the Village Administrator, using the designated on-call authorization form, may place an employee on-call status for up to 60 days per calendar year in their respective departments.”
“On-call “waiting to be engaged” status is not considered work time and thus is not compensable. However, in recognition of the potential inconvenience, employees in this status will be compensated (2) two hours of regular pay at the employees’ current applicable rate of pay, per 24-hour period of on-call status. The full policy will be added to the employee handbook.”

Council moved to approve this on-call policy, as well as an additional request to allow the village administrator to advertise for all electrical position classifications. With no other items to attend to, the meeting was adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
