The Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education held their meeting on Monday, December 9th. The meeting began at 6:00 p.m. with Superintendent Riley offering forth his report.
During this report, Mr. Riley offered the second opportunity for public input for the 2025-2026 tentative school calendar.
The board was also given the chance to comment on the tentative board meeting dates for 2025 and were also presented the first reading of NEOLA policies/updates. Following the report, board members moved to approve the following items as part of a consent agenda.
-November 2024 Board of Education meeting minutes, financial statements, and investments.
-A resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the County Auditor.
-Section 125 Plan Document with American Fidelity.
-A five sick-day advance for Isaac VanArsdalen.
-An appropriation modification as presented.
-A list of personnel items for the 2024-2025 school year.
-A classified and certified substitute list for the 2024-2025 school year that is provided and maintained by the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center.
-A list of curriculum items for the 2024-2025 school year.
-The retirement of Ken Brown, JH Math Teacher, effective June 1st, 2024.
During the “items for the board” portion of the meeting, Mr. Mahlman asked if there was an opportunity for students to take classes to get certified to referee and or umpire ball games, since it has been harder to find officials.
Mr. Chester stated that there are classes for students through the OHSAA. Mr. Riley then stated he would look further into that.

Lastly, the board moved to make the upcoming organizational meeting scheduled for January 6th, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the library.
Heather Jones was selected by the board as President Pro Tem. The next regular meeting will be held following the organizational meeting. With no other business to attend to, the meeting was adjourned.
