The Village of Edon Council met in joint session on Monday evening, May 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
Following the call to order, roll call was taken with council members Dave Loughborough, Jeff Pease, Lee Lawrence, Aimee Bell, Dan Ankney, and Brian Shaffer present.
Also attending were Mayor Duane Thiel, Heidi Bidwell, Chad Ordway, Solicitor Tom Thompson, Chief of Police Tom Szymczak, and Florence Township trustees Bert Brown and Mark Trausch.
The meeting began with a joint discussion involving township trustees regarding cemetery matters. Discussion centered on cemetery levy renewal efforts as well as fencing improvements on the north side of the cemetery property.
For Florence Township business, a motion was made by Pease and seconded by Brown to appoint trustee Mark Trausch to another term.
Council approved the reading of the previous meeting minutes with a motion by Ankney and a second by Loughborough.
Council also reviewed financial reports and bills, with approval granted following a motion by Pease and a second by Loughborough.
Police matters and community activities were also discussed, including participation in Career Day activities and village scheduling updates.
Officials noted the village office would be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
Under committee reports, no updates were reported regarding parks, cemetery matters, finance, or zoning.
Village officials also discussed ongoing surveying work and water line improvements connected to the downtown project.
In new business, council considered Ordinance 06-26 authorizing the Village Administrator to exercise a purchase agreement for property acquisition.
The evening also included recognition of Mayor Duane Thiel’s birthday, with cupcakes shared during the meeting. The joint meeting later adjourned into executive session.
The next regular meeting of the Village of Edon Council is scheduled for June 15 at 6:30 p.m.
