Edon Village Council met in regular session Monday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Duane Thiel called the meeting to order following the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call.
Council members present were Dave Loughborough, Dan Ankney, Aimee Bell, Lee Lawrence, Brian Shaffer and Jeff Pease.
Also attending were Village Administrator Chad Ordway, Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell, Chief of Police Tom Szymczak and community member Pauline Snow.
After approving the minutes from the previous meeting (motion by Ankney, seconded by Shaffer), council heard reports.
During the financial report and discussion of bills, ongoing flooding concerns were raised. Pauline Snow presented photos of her property on Woodville Street to illustrate the issue for council review.
In the police report, it was noted that Officer Octovia has resigned to take a position closer to her residence.
Council also discussed the upcoming community trash pickup scheduled for Saturday, April 25. Committee reports (Safety, Park, Cemetery, Finance and Zoning) contained no new updates.
Under the village administrator and public works report, council discussed coordination with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for upcoming roadway work and attendance at an upcoming ODOT meeting. Training and scheduling for administrative duties were also reviewed.
Council conducted the third and final reading of Ordinance 02-26, which repeals the existing Chapter 901 and enacts a revised ordinance addressing sidewalks in the village.
The measure passed following discussion. Motion by Lawrence, seconded by Loughborough. Council passed Ordinance 04-26, adopting revisions to the village’s Policy and Procedure Manual for personnel policies and practices.
Motion to suspend the three-reading rule by Lawrence; ordinance passed on motion by Ankney, seconded by Pease.
Council approved Ordinance 05-26, authorizing the village administrator to enter into an agreement with ODOT for resurfacing a portion of State Route 49 running through Edon.
Motion to suspend the three-reading rule by Lawrence; ordinance passed on motion by Ankney, seconded by Loughborough.
A motion to adjourn, made by Lawrence and seconded by Pease, carried. Council then entered executive session to discuss property acquisition before returning and adjourning at approximately 6:55 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be held jointly with the trustees on Monday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m.
