EDON VILLAGE COUNCIL: Next Council Meeting Rescheduled & Large Trash Day Announced

February 23, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

The Edon Village Council met in regular session on February 20th, 2024. Those present at the Edon Village council chambers were councilpersons Lee Lawrence, David Loughborough (who arrived later), Dan Ankney, Brian Shaffer, Austin Thiel and Jeff Pease, who also arrived later.

AIso present were Mayor Duane Thiel, Village Administrator Chad Ordway, Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell, Police Chief Tom Symczak, Village Solicitor Tom Thompson via phone, as well as Angie Flegal and Dr. Mike Miller from the Wellness Huddle.

Items approved included: Minutes of the previous meeting, financial statements, and payment of the bills.

Communications reported that the Village Wide Trash Pickup will be April 27th. To see a list of acceptable items, please go to the village website or contact the village offices.

Chief Szymczak was present for the police report for the month of January. Chief stated that he and his department will be working on fulfilling their CPT hours as required by OPATA.

He will be attending a SART training, the sheriff’s department will be hosting a training, and he will attend the OTOA Conference and is currently fulfilling his CPT hours.

February 23rd will see the renewal of the sexton contract, and March 12th will see the next park meeting.

The finance committee met on February 15″ to discuss the plant closure of Mobex that will be happening in July and reviewed the impact of the loss of income.

Tax revenues for 2024 will not impacted much, though the village will probably be making some adjustments for 2025 estimated resources and appropriations for the loss of revenue.

Village Administrator Chad Ordway updated mayor and council on issues and projects that are being worked on through the month.

Ordway stated the walkway project on Summit Street had been surveyed and the attorney for the Burkhardt’s were reviewing the right of way permit, which would be approved after their approval.

There are a couple of right of ways that the village is looking for approval to extend and accept for streets.

The first is Franklin Street extending to Webster with the second being Baylee Drive and to dedicate it as a road right of way.

This road does need to be brought up to specs but needs to be maintained by the village to obtain grants to bring the road up to par.

Ordway still has not received any more information on the Woodville property, and the next regular council meeting will be rescheduled to March 25th, 2024, at 7 p.m.

The clerk noted for the January 15th council minutes that the Finance Committee consists of Lee Lawrence, Austin Thiel, and Dan Ankney.

Dr. Mike Miller and his office manager Angie Flegal were present to request some signage approval. They will need to ask for a variance and a sign permit from the zoning board, and then it will be presented to council for acceptance. A zoning meeting will be scheduled to address the issue.
