The Edon Village Council met on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7 p.m. Present were councilors David Loughborough, Jeff Pease, Brandon Thiel, Austin Thiel, and Dan Ankney, with councilor Lee Lawrence absent.
Solicitor Tom Thompson, Mayor Duane Thiel, Administrator Chad Ordway, and Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell were also present.
The minutes from the last meeting were accepted as presented, as were the financial reports and bills.
Administrator Ordway shared that tire pickup is going on this week, and Police Chief Tom Szymczak shared that they are excited for the last home football game of the season, as well as his department’s completion of firearms training.
Szymczak was granted permission to hire local police officer Austin Batt to serve temporarily while a fresh academy graduate is waited on before Ordway shared that there will be a backflow prevention training class in the upcoming week, a Cemetery Committee meeting is scheduled for November, and a Finance Committee meeting was scheduled as well.
Legislation was then read, with Ordinance 04-23 having the rules suspended and passed as an emergency. This ordinance allows for the village’s codes and ordinances to be updated in line with state standards.
Conversation was then held on the maintenance happening around the school and how nice it looks, as well as the process for taking care of nuisance properties, specifically the one-off Woodville Street.
This property is being looked at in a joint effort with the landbank, and the village is currently going through the steps necessary to remedy the situation.
With nothing further to address, the Edon Village Council voted to adjourn the meeting, set next to meet November 20, 2023 at 7 p.m.
