The Evergreen Local Board of Education met for its regular session on Monday, April 20, 2026, with nine visitors in attendance.
The meeting opened with approval of minutes from the March 23 meeting, followed by approval of March financial reports, including cash reconciliation and disbursement summaries.
The board also accepted a $100 anonymous donation to the Student Assistance Fund and approved several fund transfers and appropriation adjustments to maintain financial balance through the end of the fiscal year.
In personnel matters, the board approved multiple contract actions, including a one-year limited teaching contract for a reading specialist beginning with the 2026-2027 school year and a three-year administrative contract for the middle school principal effective August 1.
A home instructor was also approved to provide services to a student with medical needs, while contracts for supplemental and pupil service positions for the current school year were formally non-renewed as part of standard annual procedure.
Additional approvals included contracts for the district’s technology coordinator and food service director, along with the resignation of a one-to-one nurse and the addition of a new substitute staff member.
The board approved several student-related items, including granting diplomas to the Class of 2026 pending completion of requirements and multiple potential and planned overnight trips.
These included travel for the track team to the state tournament if qualified, a boys basketball team camp at the University of Findlay in June and an FFA officer retreat in Indiana in late July.
Agreements were also approved with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for mentor program support,
A and G Educational Services for specialized instruction through the Leap Program, and the Ohio Schools Council for participation in an electricity purchasing program.
Administrative reports were also presented during the meeting. Elementary Principal Mr. Frank reported that state testing is wrapping up and noted upcoming events, including the spring choir concert on May 7 and the art show on May 24. Middle School Principal Mr. Burkholder said state testing has begun, shared that 65 students took part in the third-quarter all-A’s breakfast, and noted that the band and choir concert is scheduled for May 6.
High School Principal Mr. Ruffer reported that quiz team finals were taking place and said the prom on April 18 went well.
Discussion items included an upcoming 0.25 percent income tax renewal levy on the May ballot, which officials noted is not a new tax and supports general operations such as salaries, transportation and utilities.
Board members also reviewed planned summer maintenance projects, including improvements at both the middle and high schools, as well as a roof replacement at the stadium press box. Concern was expressed regarding the future condition of the middle school roof.
The meeting concluded with acknowledgment of recent staff transfers within the district and confirmation that the next regular meeting will be held on May 18, 2026, at 6 p.m.
