Pioneer Branch Library’s summer reading program, based on the overall theme of “Fizz, Boom, Read,” will begin on June 18th and will finish on Thursday, July 31st. Children who continue to read during the summer keep their skills sharpened and do better in school when they return in the fall. Parents can help their children maintain their reading skills by bringing them to the library reading programs during the summer.

Summer reading will kick-off on Wednesday, June 18th at 1:00 pm with an “Experiment Excursion,” open to all ages located at the Crommer Park shelter house.

On certain Mondays, there will be teen based programs, for ages 10-18, at 1:00 pm. On June 23rd teenagers are invited to take part in the “Zombie Apocalypse” at the library, and on July 14th the program “Minute to Win It,” will be held at the Crommer Park shelter house.

All ages can take part in special programs, that begin at 1:00 pm, on designated days throughout June and July. Attend “Blast Off!” on Thursday, June 19, and set off water rockets with the Robert Grasso family at the Crommer Park shelter house. On Tuesday, June 24 there will be an amazing hands-on live reptile and amphibian program at the Crommer Park shelter house, hosted by “Herps Alive! with Keith Gisser.” Visit “Einstein’s Café” on Tuesday July 1, at the library. Pre-registration is required for this program, as there is a 20 person limit. Special programs “Soap Explosion” and “Dr. Who” will be held at the library on July 8 and July 15 respectively.

Beginning on June 19th, the Eaglets, a story time for toddlers and preschoolers, will meet weekly from 11:00-11:45 am. Thursdays in June, the Eaglets will have the following programs: “Sprinkle of Color,” and “Cloud Family.”. Thursday programs in July will be “Ignite the Senses,” “Glistening Goo,” “Butterfly Boom,” and “Dancing Robots.” The Eaglets will not meet on Thursday, July 3rd.

The library will have its summer reading Closing Program on Wednesday, July 16 at 1:00 pm at the Crommer Park shelter house. Johnny the TinCaps mascots will be visiting. There will be fun games, lots of prizes, and ice cream.

Pioneer Branch Library is located at 106 Baubice Street. Stop by the library to pick up a calendar of events. For more information about the summer reading programs, please call library manager Rose King at 419-737-2833.
